Historical Georgetown, Washington D.C. is always charming. The tree-lined streets help the colorful buildings pop. Walking along the cobbled stone streets is an activity in itself. However there is also shopping, sightseeing and wonderful restaurants. Now add on the fact that everything was perfectly decorated for Christmas and you can be sure that it felt all the more magical.
At the beginning of January we took a trip down south and just had to make a quick lunch stop in Georgetown. Whenever we road trip down south we have to stop at Old Glory, possibly our favorite BBQ restaurant.
The corn bread muffins are delicious but the butter dip that goes with them is addictive in the best way. Whenever we go we always happen to forget about these tasty little starters, which is the greatest surprise. We basically inhale the whole basket before they take our order, which we justify by the fact that we only get to this place every 6 months or so. Also can I just say, they are completely worth it.
The people are so friendly and helpful and the service is quick. Since it is a barbecue restaurant everything is basically ready when you walk in the door. All you have to do is order your favorite and they slice it and serve it up for you, perfect for a road trip pit stop. They have a full bar which we have yet to take advantage of (besides one drink each) because we are always just passing through. The sides are superb, the sauce is sinfully good and the meat is so heavenly that you have to resist the urge to close your eyes with each bite.
Being a historical place (between 100 and 200 years old) in the capital of the US they have to add their patriotic charm which is lots of fun. American flag plates, flag toothpicks in the food when it comes out, and this time a patriotic Christmas Tree. If you didn't already know you were in our nation's capital the American Flags are there to remind you.
After lunch we decided to walk off some of that delicious food and stretch our legs around Georgetown. Now when I tell you this place is charming it doesn't necessarily do it justice, better to just show you.
Now I'm sure owners of these adorable row houses are required to uphold a certain standard for how they keep their houses, but the vespa? Come on guys isn't that cuteness overload? But you certainly won't hear me complaining.
Wreaths, twinkle lights, bows, ribbons, exposed brick, painted houses and cobbled stone streets, Georgetown you have really outdone yourself.
